Turtlehead Peak Trail Run and Analysis (Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area)

Just outside of Las Vegas is the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area. Last year about this same time I ran partway up Turtlehead Peak from the Calico Tanks trail at the Sandstone Quarry parking lot, but ran out of time and got lost a time or two too many. This time there are new trail markers which made it a lot easier, plus I’d uploaded a GPX from another runner on Strava to my Suunto for slightly better route-finding. After this run I felt pretty good considering my current injuries which is inspiring looking forward to 2021. Here I spend a few minutes on the trail, then a few minutes…

Beta Testing a 12-3-30 Incline Treadmill Workout

I had the opportunity to test out the 12-3-30-Treadmill Protocol on my own treadmill. I used my Stryd Footpod, the RunCline App (iPad), and Zwift (AppleTv) to record the "run" which was actually more of a hike. It’s fair to call it a run though, because if you were out on a trail run at this steepness most non-elite athletes would be walking it at about this same pace to save energy. In this video I show you the results in both Training Peaks and the Stryd Power Center dashboards (after importing from RunCline to Stryd, Zwift exported directly to Training Peaks upon completion). Bottom Line? It’s admittedly a bit…

    Beginning Footpods for Zwift Running

If you have no idea what sorts of footpods you’d need for running in Zwift, let’s take a quick peek at a few I’ve tried, and my favorites. We’ll get into more technical details later, but for now, this will give you a very brief look. If you need more info, subscribe and stay tuned. We’ll be on it ASAP. Powered by WPeMatico

Wahoo TickrX Running Heart Rate Strap Zwift Calibration

The first time I ran on Zwift with the new TickrX Heart Rate strap I was impressed overall with the relatively stable signal it gave to my AppleTV. It seemed to record a bit high, meaning the numbers on Zwift sent by the TickrX for speed were more than the treadmill, more than the Stryd with RunCline, and while that feels awesome to see those kinds of numbers, I knew it wouldn’t be fair to myself or others. The TickrX is an advanced strap that provides running metrics to Zwift including heart rate, cadence and speed. This video shows the process of connecting to Zwift and running a calibration on…

Wahoo TickrX Running Heart Rate Strap Vs. Runcline in Zwift

So what’s the difference between recording with the TickrX in Zwift vs. the stats accumulated by the same run in RunCline/Stryd? Yesterday I posted the TickrX calibration video and also recorded with RunCline App on iPad at the same time so I could compare in Training Peaks. Watch the video as I merge and strip fields and run the Training Peaks Analyze tab to compare. TLDR: depending on your own FTP/CP/rFTP which sets your Power Zones, which will affect your TSS score, the rest is almost insignificant. NOTE: RunCline is an amazing app and if you have a Stryd Footpod you totally need it and it’s free right now too.…

Zwift is a Social Platform – Wait – What?

Let’s take a brief overview or poke into the social nature of Zwift with the Activities Tab, where to give Ride-Ons (Thumbs Up or Like) and where to find your Ride-Ons you’ve received on rides and runs. Please be sure to give plenty of Ride-Ons when you’re among a group of riders. It’s called a "thumberstorm" and you’ll enjoy taking part in one. I’ll show you in the Companion App later during an activity. Powered by WPeMatico
